Republican Presidential Debates Take Ugly Turn

October 21 00:00 2011

New York, October 21 ( – The debates which were supposed to help in deciding the Republican presidential candidate that will challenge Barack Obama, turned out to be an ugly, slugfest. It was characterized by intense bickering and personal attacks by members of the Republican Party on each other.

The first to come in the firing line was candidate Herman Cain who is a forerunner in the race to become the Party’s Presidential Candidate as a result of his 9-9-9 plan. It has already become the talk of the town, catapulting him to the top. He was attacked by fellow Republican, Mitt Romney, who cited a report released hours before the debate that said the 9-9-9 plan would prove counterproductive for the lower and middle echelons while relieving the higher ones of taxation.

However, Romney got a piece of the action himself. This was when Governor Rick Perry of Texas, cited an incident in which Romney had hired a lawn mowing company that hired illegal immigrants. Consequently, Mitt Romney was left embarrassed in front of a large crowd.

On the other hand, Governor Rick Perry wasn’t spared either. He was accused of supporting the big banks in the bailout of 2008. This he vehemently denied and stated that he was just urging the government to act.
